Chapter 12
They ended up in a coffee shop, drinking cocoa with marshmallows in it while Jordan programmed the new Ipod he’d bought. Seth looked bored. His eyes roved the place, clearly on the look-out for hot guys. But there were none to be had except at his table, so he finally slumped in his chair and looked at Jordan across the table. “Hey, Jordan,” he said.
The actor looked up. “What?” he asked.
“How’s about we make a bet? If I win, you get with me. If you win…” he hesitated, obviously trying to think of some reward for Jordan if he won.
Jordan set the Ipod down on the table. He looked faintly amused and interested both. “If I win?” he encouraged Seth. “What do I get?”
“Err…a blow job?” Seth said, obviously coming up empty.
Jordan’s lips twitched as Frankie rolled his eyes again at his hopeless cousin. “A blow job? But you’d like that too much, Seth,” Jordan pointed out calmly. “I know…how about this? If I win the bet, you have to go without sex for a month.”
“A month?!” Seth nearly shrieked, his voice full of horror. “Are you kidding me?!”
Jordan shook his head as Frankie slapped a hand over his mouth to conceal his giggles. “No, I’m not. Do you still want to make the bet?”
Seth blinked, then twitched a bit as he considered it. At last he said reluctantly: “I guess. But If I win you have to get with me more than once, since I’m putting so much on the line.”
Jordan’s eyes gleamed. “Very well. it’s a deal. So what are the terms of the bet?”
“Well, how about we bet on a game? Whoever’s team wins also wins the bet?”
Jordan considered this. “All right. Which teams? What sport?”
“We’ll let Frankie decide!” Seth declared, beaming at his cousin. “Do me proud now, cuz. You don’t want me to have to go a whole month without getting any, do you?”
Frankie shook his head. “I don’t know anything about sports,” he pointed out in exasperation.
“Then pick a couple of teams at random, Frankie,” Jordan said. “Or just pick a game at random, anyway. Here,” he got up and went to fetch a newspaper from the counter, bearing it back to their table. He turned to the sports section. “Here’s a list of the teams that are playing tonight. Just randomly pick one of them, and we’ll find out the results of the game tomorrow.”
Frankie hesitated over the columns, not even sure who half of these teams were. Finally he set a finger on one column. “There,” he said. “I think that’s football. Seth can have this team, and Jordan this one,” he pointed at each team as he spoke so that they could see his choices.
Jordan’s lips twitched again. “Yes, it is football,” he agreed. “Okay, tomorrow you’ll find the outcome of that game and let us know. All right?”
Frankie nodded hesitantly, not sure that he liked this bet. But if Jordan and Seth were determined, how could he argue? He just wondered why his friend was going along with this. He’d have to have sex with Seth if he lost the bet! Seth said: “Okay, then. I’ve gotta go take a piss. Be right back,” he stood up and moved away toward the bathrooms.
As soon as he did so, Frankie leaned forward and hissed: “Why are you going along with this, Jordan? If your team loses, then you’ll have to sleep with my cousin!”
Jordan lifted an eyebrow. “And would that be the most terrible thing in the world? He’s not bad-looking, and I’m sure he’s really skilled in bed.”
“But you called his trailer trash,” Frankie pointed out.
Jordan shrugged. “So? Even trailer trash can be sexy. Maybe he’s not boyfriend material, but as an occasional good lay…there’s nothing wrong with that.”
“Oh,” Frankie said stupidly. “And if you win?”
Jordan grinned. “I get to watch him squirm while he tries to keep the terms of the bet,” he said with relish. “That will be hilarious. I doubt that he’ll make it for the whole month, in which case I’ll get to rub it in his face. Good fun, all around.”
Frankie shook his head. “You’re not very nice, Jordan,” he told his friend.
Jordan shrugged. “I never said that I was,” he pointed out merrily.
Frankie awoke the next morning and lay looking at the little window in the far wall. Early morning sunlight was filtering through the curtains, casting a dull gold light on the room. He sat up slowly, rubbing at his head as he tried to get his brain to work properly. Finally his sluggish brain began to turn over, and he remembered that stupid bet that Jordan and Seth had made at the Mall yesterday. He climbed out of bed with a faint shiver, padding over to grab his laptop from off the dresser. He sat down on his bed and opened it, blinking sleep out of his eyes as he waited for the screen to come up. When it did, he got onto the internet and searched out news results for the football game that he’d picked out last night.
Finally a news story popped up, and he clicked on it. When he saw the results of the game, he winced. Wow, Seth was going to be one hell of an unhappy man-whore when he heard how the game had gone last night!
